So much as happened since my last post. Things that are of major significance! Let me give you a quick run down in case you have been living under a rock...or in a small town with a slow Internet connection.
1) Another Brit gets cast as an American Superhero. The icon in question is Superman and the actor cast to play him is Henry Cavill of The Tudors. This is not a big deal but I am sure many yanks are up in arms about this issue. Lets get them to lose their shit and petition to cast Sasha Baron Cohen in the Obama bio pic. Thoughts?
2) Liam Nelson talks about Taken 2 (Kind of)- I watched Taken in a jetlag daze on a flight from somewhere to somewhere (do you really care for the details?). I usually skim through movies on long flights but the topic of the film really stuck a chord and as a result it captured my undivided attention. I was genuinely upset by the kidnapping of Liam Nelson's fictional daughter and subsequent sale into sex slavery. This might be because I have sisters or I know that slavery is more prevent today than any other time in human history (check out Call and Responsee for more information on the issue). I rambled a bit huh!? Anyway news of the sequel has surfaced and my first reaction was WTF? Then Liam Nelson jokingly suggested that he was going to get "taken" WTF squared. This is not really the type of film that warrants a sequel but I am curious to see how they will make this happen.
3) Black Swan didn't suck! - I had trepidations about Black Swan mostly because of the hype and the fact that it contain copious amounts of ballet and that annoying chick from that 70s show. It also seemed like it would be a self indulgent attempt on Natalie Portman's part to get an Oscar. This is true on all accounts but apparently these ingredients work to make an engaging and can I say slightly titillating picture. What can I say I am into crazy chicks!
4) Catfish kind of did (suck) - 100 points for effort and without giving too much away this docu is yet another example of how life can really fuck shit up and spin you out. The film heads in an intriguing direction but I left it feeling deflated and a little depressed. Maybe that is the point...but it is not something I would watch again ... hence it only kind of sucked.
5) Cameron James Lives makes it in the Top 20 - My first attempt at directing, writing and producing happened earlier this year when I decided I would make a short film for the Optus 180 project one week before the entries closed. It was exhausting, stressful and fun. I wanted to make the point that you can do whatever you want you just have to try. And in that respect it was a complete and utter success. Also found out I made it in the top 20! Not bad for someone with no technical ability whatsoever!
